Brian Andrew Lang FRSE〔http://www.royalsoced.org.uk/cms/files/publications/directory/directory_nolist.pdf〕 (b. 1945) is a Scottish social anthropologist who served as deputy chairman of the British Library and Principal of the University of St Andrews.〔http://www.rsno.org.uk/about/board/?director=Brian+Lang&action=Profile〕 Lang was born on 2 December 1945 in Edinburgh and educated at the Royal High School of Edinburgh and the University of Edinburgh〔http://www.timeshighereducation.co.uk/news/in-the-news-brian-lang/164522.article〕 where he studied social anthropology, graduating MA in 1968, and PhD in 1974. Lang, upon retirement as Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of St Andrews, was succeeded by Louise Richardson.
